Low marks are not one-point contributions
At Tshwane University of Technology, the exclusion of achievement level one matters when a learner has a very low subject result. A general NSC calculator can give that result one point, but the TUT rule does not include it in the APS. Keep the actual mark in the form so the zero contribution remains visible in the breakdown. This helps you distinguish a missing entry from a low result that was correctly processed.
Before comparing a programme target
Programme names, mathematics routes and additional selection tasks should be checked separately. If a course requires Mathematics, an APS generated with Mathematical Literacy does not establish eligibility. Arts and design applicants may also need to prepare additional work where the course requires it. Do not use the total to infer that a portfolio, assessment or subject condition has been waived.
Worked example for TUT
Illustration only: the six academic marks are 72%, 66%, 63%, 62%, 61%, 69%, with Life Orientation at 78%. This form returns 31 points. The result uses the displayed method, not a programme admission threshold. Read the table to see each included subject and its contribution. Change one academic mark at a time to see whether it crosses a points band or changes a percentage-based total. A higher elective only displaces another subject when that other subject is not compulsory.
How to use the TUT APS calculator
Start with one consistent set of school results for Tshwane University of Technology. Enter six academic percentages, choose the correct subject names and identify each language level. Add further eligible academic subjects only if you actually completed them. Mark programme-required subjects so they remain in the selected set. Enter Life Orientation in its own field. Select Calculate and check the included-subject column before reading the headline. Copy or print the result if you want a record for your application planning.
Planning your TUT application
Use the full qualification name when making a TUT shortlist, and record the intake alongside it. Do not copy an application fee, closing date or minimum from a different intake. A page about admission points does not establish that applications are open. Keep the application confirmation, submitted school results and any programme-specific documents together. If a selection condition is unclear, resolve that point before treating a score comparison as a completed application check.
| Example subject | Mark | Value used before final conversion |

| Life Sciences | 61% | 5 |
| Geography | 69% | 5 |
