Calculate your result
Quick answer
Measure wall area and subtract openings. Use the maxi brick’s actual laid face dimensions with joints, or the supplier’s installed units per m² for one leaf. Multiply by similar leaves, add waste once and round up units and full pallets. The name maxi does not establish one universal size, pallet count or price.
How it works
Use this Maxi Brick Calculator for South Africa to estimate wall quantities, waste and full pallets. Enter the actual laid face dimensions or confirmed supplier coverage, then add your unit or pallet quote for a material budget. Maxi brick size, orientation and pallet count vary by product, so confirm the exact item before ordering.
Formula
Maxi units = net wall area ÷ installed maxi face area × leaves × (1 + waste ÷ 100), rounded up.
Assumptions and common mistakes
Check units, input values and the method before relying on an estimate. Review the existing tool notes and official sources below.
Formula
Maxi units = net wall area ÷ installed maxi face area × leaves × (1 + waste ÷ 100), rounded up.
How to use the maxi brick calculator
Add wall sections, each section’s repeated count and total openings. Choose the number of matching masonry leaves. Select a size example only if it describes your actual product and laid orientation, or enter custom dimensions. Supplier coverage is preferable when it has been confirmed for the exact unit and joint arrangement.
Maxi brick size and dimensions in South Africa
Maxi is a product description used for different formats. The initial example is explicitly 290 mm length × 140 mm width × 90 mm height, so its visible wall face is 290 × 90 mm. Other product labels may put height before width. Read the labelled order rather than assuming the middle number is always the height or always the width.
Cement maxi bricks and manufacturer coverage
Cement maxi describes a concrete masonry product, not one fixed dimension or performance class. For example, Corobrik’s Cement Maxi 90 page lists 222 × 110 × 90 mm in length × height × width order and a published quantity of 35/m². This is a different product from the initial 290 × 140 × 90 example. Confirm current product details and laying gauge before entering its coverage.
Worked quantity and pallet example
A 10 m × 2.4 m wall with 3 m² of openings has 21 m² net area. With a hypothetical 290 × 90 mm laid face, 10 mm joints, one leaf and 10% waste, the requirement is 770 maxi bricks. An example pallet of 200 means four full pallets supplying 800 units. The 200-unit count is hypothetical, not a standard maxi pallet quantity.
How many maxi bricks are in a pallet?
Enter the exact units per pallet from the selected product quote. Different products, factories and suppliers can pack different counts. A building supplier’s pallet may also carry a separate charge or deposit. If buying individual units, leave pack size at zero. Do not use a pallet count copied from a different brick.
Maxi brick price and pallet price
Choose a quote per individual brick or per full pallet. Unit pricing multiplies purchased units, including any full-pack rounding. Pallet pricing requires a positive units-per-pallet input and multiplies the full pallet count. Delivery and a non-refundable pallet charge can be entered separately. Use one consistent VAT basis; the tool does not add extra VAT or current market prices.
Cashbuild, Build it and Corobrik comparisons
99tools is independent of these businesses. Match the exact product, size orientation, installed coverage, strength specification, units per pallet, price basis and delivery when comparing quotes. No live price, stock or nearby branch availability is loaded. A lower unit count does not establish a cheaper or suitable finished wall.
What this quantity and budget exclude
Material cost is not an installed wall quote. Mortar, foundations, labour, reinforcement, lintels, finishes and professional fees need separate allowances in the Brick Wall Calculator. Confirm structural suitability and details with the responsible designer. Machines, moulds and second-hand manufacturing equipment have a different buying purpose and are outside this wall calculator.
Brick and block coverage comparison
| One leaf, no waste | Face L × H (mm) | Joint (mm) | Units per m² |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stock/face example | 222 × 73 | 10 | 51.932 |
| Same face, larger joint | 222 × 73 | 12 | 50.277 |
| Maxi example | 290 × 90 | 10 | 33.333 |
| Flat-maxi example | 288 × 88 | 10 | 34.242 |
| Block example | 390 × 190 | 10 | 12.5 |

Frequently asked questions
What is a maxi brick?
Maxi is a product description used for larger masonry formats, including cement products. It does not define one universal size, coverage or strength; confirm the exact manufacturer item.
What is the size of a maxi brick?
Sizes vary. The calculator’s initial example is 290 × 140 × 90 mm in length × width × height order. Other products and labelled dimension orders differ, so confirm the laid wall face.
How many maxi bricks are needed per m²?
Use the selected product’s installed coverage. A 290 × 90 mm wall face with 10 mm joints gives 33.333 units/m² geometrically for one leaf, before waste.
How many maxi bricks are in a pallet?
There is no universal count. Enter units per pallet from the exact product quote, or use zero pack size when purchasing individual units.
How much is a maxi brick or pallet?
Enter a current quote per unit or per full pallet. Price depends on product, location, date and delivery; this calculator does not publish a live national price.
Can I use it for Cashbuild or Build it products?
Yes. Enter the exact item’s dimensions or coverage, pallet quantity and quoted price. This is an independent tool and does not retrieve retailer prices or stock.
Does a maxi brick making machine belong in this calculator?
No. This tool estimates purchased units for walls. Machine output, mould specifications and manufacturing economics need a separate assessment.

Helpful guides
How Many Bricks per Square Metre?
Bricks per m² depend on the actual wall-face dimensions, mortar joints and number of leaves. A 222 × 73 mm face with 10 mm joints gives about 51.932.
What Does a Brick Calculator Need for Accuracy?
A brick calculator needs measured wall sections, openings, actual product coverage, masonry leaves, joints, waste and purchasing units. A product name alone.
