How to Split Group Accommodation Costs Fairly
Equal share = shared accommodation ÷ people. Person-night share = accommodation × individual nights ÷ total person-nights. For room sharing, each occupied room’s agreed weight is split between its occupants. Extras are shared equally or by nights.

Worked example (illustration only)
R12 000 for stays of 3, 3, 2 and 1 nights means 9 person-nights. Shares are R4 000, R4 000, R2 666.67 and R1 333.33 after exact-cent rounding. These amounts add to R12 000. Example only.
Check the inputs
Add or remove people. Enter each person’s name, nights, room identifier, personal costs and payments. Choose a method. For room sharing enter room weights such as Room 1=1, Room 2=2. Add shared extras and choose how to divide them.
What to check before relying on the result
Weights are relative proportions, not fixed room prices. Personal costs go only to their owner. Refundable deposits are excluded. Settlement transfers appear only when entered payments equal the total spending; otherwise the unpaid or overpaid amount is shown.
Agree the method first
Equal sharing suits similar stays. Nights sharing suits late arrivals. Room weights let the group value different rooms differently. Custom weights can give a child or host a reduced share without changing the total.
