Keep the two languages even if one is lower
Walter Sisulu University separates language subjects from the four other counted results. The language entries cannot simply be dropped because a fifth elective is higher. The four academic places must also retain subjects required by the qualification. Use the required-subject selection if an extra result would otherwise displace a compulsory subject. The breakdown makes that decision visible rather than silently presenting a best-six total.
Before comparing a programme target
The BEd Foundation Phase option adds Life Orientation after the two language and four-other-subject calculation. That is a particular exception, not evidence that all Education programmes count seven subjects. Check the exact teaching phase when using this option. A high LO result can change this total substantially, while it has no effect on the general result. The form lets you compare the two without changing the entered academic marks.
Worked example for WSU
Illustration only: the six academic marks are 84%, 47%, 91%, 56%, 72%, 66%, with Life Orientation at 88%. This form returns 33 points. The result uses the displayed method, not a programme admission threshold. Read the table to see each included subject and its contribution. The general result uses the two languages and four other subjects. Selecting BEd Foundation Phase with these marks adds the Life Orientation contribution and changes the total from 33 to 40.
How to use the WSU APS calculator
Start with one consistent set of school results for Walter Sisulu University. Enter six academic percentages, choose the correct subject names and identify each language level. Add further eligible academic subjects only if you actually completed them. Mark programme-required subjects so they remain in the selected set. Enter Life Orientation in its own field. Select Calculate and check the included-subject column before reading the headline. Copy or print the result if you want a record for your application planning.
Planning your WSU application
Use the full qualification name when making a WSU shortlist, and record the intake alongside it. Do not copy an application fee, closing date or minimum from a different intake. A page about admission points does not establish that applications are open. Keep the application confirmation, submitted school results and any programme-specific documents together. If a selection condition is unclear, resolve that point before treating a score comparison as a completed application check.
| Example subject | Mark | Value used before final conversion |
